Maintaining hair color after dyeing. Note to blondes: products for beautiful hair color after dyeing (expert opinion)

The most common (and saddest - considering the time and money spent) problem that we encounter after coloring is not irritated scalp or split ends, but a dull, dull color. Creative partner of L’Oréal Professionnel Alexey Nagorsky told me how to care for dyed hair so that after 10 days you don’t have to regret going to the salon. We asked him the 5 most important questions regarding color protection and received comprehensive answers.

Why does paint wash out so quickly?

Dyeing is a chemical process when the natural pigment in the hair structure is replaced by an artificial one. Dye cannot remain on the hair indefinitely: it is constantly subjected to too strong mechanical stress, which is why the artificial particles gradually “fall off”, leaving it without pigment.

The base on which the dye is applied and the condition of the hair are the primary things to pay attention to before dyeing.

The dye lasts the worst on porous and/or damaged hair, since its scales are open and there is simply nowhere for the pigment to linger. It will last longer on healthy (and especially pristinely free from chemical experiments) hair ( read also: “Princesses also have hair problems (we learn from their mistakes)”). The preservation of color also depends on the complementarity of the natural shade and the shade of the paint. If your hair is dark brown, and you dyed it chocolate, then when proper care You can save the color until the next scheduled coloring (3-4 weeks). With drastic changes ─ moving from a dark base to a light one and vice versa ─ maintaining the result is much more difficult.

Does the life of color depend on the cost of the paint?

Yes, but maybe not in the way you thought. Dyes for home use are actually more durable than professional dyes. Salon dyes, even very persistent ones, contain less pigment than ordinary “home” dyes: it is assumed that the hairdresser-stylist collects the color from several shades of dye, and does not dye the hair along the entire length and depth with one color. Generally speaking, golden hair lasts best, brown shades, and red, red and cold blonde have a lower level of durability.

Definitely not. Products for colored hair really preserve color: they contain water-soluble silicones that envelop the hair and prevent the pigment from leaving it quickly. It is good to use sulfate-free shampoos, which gently cleanse the hair while minimally washing out the artificial pigment.

Well, the most important rule is to use a range to maintain hair of the same brand as the dye (it doesn’t matter what kind of dye it was - professional or homemade). Manufacturers, when creating products, monitor the recipe and combination of components in the dye and additional line. Cannot be supported professional coloring at a good level with shampoos and masks from the mass market ─ you will quickly be disappointed and, as a result, will blame the stylist.

What care products should those who regularly dye their hair have at home?

Shampoo for colored hair - use with every wash;

Mask – 1-2 times a week;

Conditioner or any rinse-off treatment - every time you wash your hair (but not on the day of using the mask);

Leave-in care - after every hair wash;

Thermal protection – before blow-drying and using stylers.

Kerastase, Blond Absolu, Ultra-Violet mask, nourishing purple mask that neutralizes yellow undertones

L"Oreal Elseve, laminating shampoo

Kerastase, Chromatique milk, created to protect colored or highlighted hair

Ideal when this must have supplemented by special tint products: their pigments fill the voids formed after color is washed out with a similar dye and help to last relatively painlessly for up to 1.5 months after dyeing.

How to properly care for colored hair?

Subsequent care after dyeing is of great importance for preserving the color. All hair restoration products reduce the level of durability of the dye, so there is no need to restore your hair immediately after “fresh” dyeing (even if they require it, you need to wait a little). For all types of coloring, nourishing and moisturizing lines are suitable, but do not restore hair quality.

Bright color can only last on well-conditioned hair

Dyeing makes hair porous, which means it absorbs and releases moisture more easily. As a result, the colored particles are washed out every time they get wet. What to do?

1. The hairdresser must use only high-quality hair care colors

Ask your hairdresser to use a professional dye with a long-lasting caring effect. Paints with natural oils The composition will help retain moisture inside the hair and make it shiny and healthy. Ammonia-free paints are another great one professional product, which is worth using.

2. Remember: reds and tans are the most susceptible to fading.

Red hair fades the fastest because it has the largest colored molecules. The large size prevents the dye from penetrating deep into the hair structure, therefore it leaves it faster. Therefore, when dyeing red, ask your hairdresser to use paint with maximum effect with minimal damage to the cuticle.

3. Use shampoo less often

To make the dye molecules wash out less, you just need to wash your hair less often. The goal is to preserve the natural fat film, so use shampoo no more than 2-3 times a week and in no case more than once every two days.

4. On days when you don't wash your hair, use dry shampoo for colored hair.

To keep your color vibrant and your hair fresh and clean, apply dry shampoo while standing head down and work through the roots to remove excess oil.

5. After coloring, refrain from washing your hair for two days.

After dyeing, wait at least 2 days before shampooing. It will be better if you don’t wash your hair for 3-4 days. This will allow the paint to soak in and set.

6. If you are not going to wash your hair with shampoo, do not wet your hair.

On days when you don't wash your hair, wear a cap while showering to prevent your dyed hair from getting extra wet. You can also put them in a bun (not tight!) or a ponytail.

7. Don't use hot water when shampooing.

When shampooing, use water at room temperature or cooler. Very hot water washes out the dye faster and damages the hair because it opens the cuticle.

8. Periodically wash your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo.

If possible, use only a moisturizing conditioner, as it washes out the color less than shampoo.

9. Apply conditioner every time after using shampoo.

After each use of shampoo, use conditioner for colored hair, it will make it shiny and the color more even. Even if your hair is thin, be sure to apply conditioner to the ends - this is the oldest and most damaged part of the hair fiber. Apply the product starting from the ear line and continue to the ends. The durability of the dye and the health of your hair directly depend on the products you use. Professional shampoos and conditioners for colored hair will protect the color and add shine, volume and shine. Here are some more tips.

10. Use the most best shampoo for colored hair

A good shampoo will protect the color, and your hair will remain bright and healthy for a long time.

11. Do not use products containing sulfates.

Sulfates wash out the color, so buy shampoo without sulfates. They contain salts that dehydrate hair, and loss of moisture is one of the main reasons for color fading.

12. You can use cleansing shampoos only before coloring.

Cleansing shampoos intensively wash out paint because they contain a large number of cleaning components to remove deposits and dirt, so they can only be used before painting. To color gray hair, purchase a clarifying shampoo that removes resins from hairsprays, silicone and wax.

.

13. Use the best conditioner for colored hair

If you use a regular conditioner and not a special one, it will be of little use. Conditioners containing oils (such as Polynesian monoi oil or Ojon nut oil) will help prevent fading and act as a barrier. Additionally, some conditioners are specifically formulated to combat color fading.

Caring for colored hair at home

When coloring, we repeat, ask the hairdresser to use paint without or with low ammonia content, as well as with softening components. This is especially important for the durability of paint applied over gray hair.
When caring at home, in addition to special shampoo and conditioner, you can use other products and procedures.

Here are some options:

14. Use deep conditioning products.

For an extra-strong glow, use a deep conditioning mask once a week. Apply the mask to damp hair and comb it thoroughly from roots to ends. After that, roll them into a bun and wrap them in a soft towel. Leave in this position for half an hour. Wash off the mask and you will see that your hair has become soft and shiny.

15. Apply leave-in color protection products.

The use of leave-in treatments will facilitate the combing process and protect against the harmful effects of thermal tools, weather and other factors. Buy special leave-in conditioners. This is especially important if you use a hair dryer, straightening iron, styler or curling iron, or if you spend a lot of time in the sun or near heating devices.

16. Hot oils will give you more shine.

Hot oil treatments are easy to perform even at home. Apply oil to clean, towel-dried hair and put on a shower cap. Warm up your hair with a hot towel, hair dryer, or just sitting in the sun. Once the oil has warmed up, let it cool to room temperature and rinse off with cold water.

17. Before the next coloring, wash your hair with a cleansing shampoo.

A couple of weeks before your next coloring session, use masks and other deep conditioning products to strengthen your hair and prepare it for the color. Also, wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo right before visiting the hairdresser.

18. Before using thermal styling tools, treat your hair with heat protectants.

If you use a hairdryer or straightener, dry your hair completely before using it to avoid burning it from the inside. Follow with a strengthening leave-in conditioner and heat protection spray.

19. Healthy eating- the key to healthy hair

Your diet directly affects the condition of your hair and its appearance. Nutrients provide energy for hair growth and shine. Foods rich in iron and protein are good for the scalp as they promote the formation of keratin, which is responsible for hair strength, improves texture and stimulates hair growth. Try to eat more lean meat, fish, low-fat cheeses, egg whites, spinach and soy. As an afternoon snack, you can eat fruits, nuts, vegetables and grains.

20. Nutritional supplements

Vitamins are your comrades in the fight. Vitamin C takes care of blood vessels in the scalp, supporting hair follicles. Biotin (a B vitamin) strengthens weak hair and improves its texture. It is found in salmon, carrots, egg yolks and sardines. If your diet is lacking all the necessary elements, taking nutritional supplements and vitamins will help keep your hair healthy and strong.

How NOT to handle dyed hair:
21. Use thermal appliances less

Dry hair is more vulnerable to damage, so use hair dryers, curling irons and straightening irons as little as possible. If possible, dry your hair at room temperature. If you need to use thermal styling tools, immediately after using shampoo and conditioner for colored hair, apply a heat-protective styling product. Set the hair dryer to the lowest setting. If it has a cold air function, use it at the end of drying.

22. Use UV protection products

Whatever time of year it is, beware sun rays. Try not to stay in the sun for a long time, but if it is a sunny day, use means to protect against ultraviolet rays. Many styling products, leave-in conditioners and hairsprays contain such filter ingredients. If you expect to be outside for a long time, wear a hat. IN summer period The sun is the most dangerous, so apply a moisturizing spray with an SPF level of 10 to 15 throughout the day.

23. Avoid exposure to chlorine

If you swim in the pool a lot, wet your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner to reduce the harmful effects of chlorine. Chlorine tends to accumulate and settle on the hair and colors it (especially light ones) in an unnatural green color. Wear a bathing cap.

24. Extend the periods between colors

A little bit of good - this also applies to coloring. Dyeing too often damages your hair, so you shouldn't do it more often than once every 5-6 weeks. When regrown roots become visible, use specialized products to “hold out” until the next coloring. Mascara, sets for home care, spray concealer - all this can help hide roots or emerging gray hair.

25. Don’t subject your hair to multiple chemical treatments at once.

If you are going to dye your hair, you cannot straighten it or do chemical treatments at the same time. If this cannot be avoided, ask the hairdresser to use dye without ammonia or with a low content of ammonia and herbal ingredients that care for the hair during the procedure.

26. Damaged hair need regular haircuts

If your hair is dry and frizzy, it is probably damaged. Regular haircuts will come to the rescue. You don't have to cut your hair short, just trim the ends.

Of course, it is best to use shampoos, conditioners, masks and other products labeled “for colored hair” (options: “for colored and highlighted hair”, “for colored and bleached hair”). Their formulas are designed, first of all, to preserve color brightness for as long as possible. Universal means, on which it is written “for colored hair and permed hair” have a slightly different composition and their formulas are aimed mainly at.

See the story on how to improve hair quality:

To dyed hair retained color brightness and shine longer, It is advisable to use shampoo, conditioner and care products of the same brand as the paint, especially for professional lines. It's all about balanced formulas, again. But styling products labeled “for colored hair” can be easily replaced with products “for hair shine”: the effect will be the same.

If the care products for colored hair do not satisfy you in some way (for example, because your hair is very oily or dry), hairdressers advise changing the care every 7-10 days after coloring. That is, using products for colored hair hair, then products suitable specifically for your hair type.

If you have bleached your hair or used a permanent (permanent) dye, do this for colored hair for the first two weeks after dyeing at least 1-2 times a week. Best of all - with ceramides and lipids. These components help restore the intercellular cement of the hair shafts, which is damaged as a result of the oxidative reaction (which, in fact, is such coloring). And hair with broken intercellular connections looks dull, begins to break and split.

Keep in mind: anti-dandruff shampoos and masks often contain exfoliating ingredients (such as salicylic acid), which simultaneously strip color-treated hair of some of its color pigments. As a result, the color washes out faster. This is especially true for red and copper shades, as well as semi-permanent (soft) colors that wash off within 6-8 weeks. It is better to refrain from using anti-dandruff products in the first 5-7 days after coloring: so your new color hair will remain saturated longer. But if the resulting hair color, on the contrary, seems too dark or bright to you, wash your hair two or three times with anti-dandruff shampoo, and the shade will wash off a little.

In the first 2-3 days, do not swim in the sea: salty and, especially chlorinated water also contribute to the rapid leaching of pigment. Wait a couple of days for it to “fix” a little.

It is best to maintain color between dyeing sessions using toning shampoos, masks, mousses or gels. Keep in mind that most of them are not suitable for touch-ups natural hair: their tinting pigments are fixed only on previously dyed hair. However, they can easily stain your skin, so it’s better not to risk it and use them with gloves.

Cool shades of blonde are the hardest to maintain. To prevent bleached hair from turning yellow, use special shampoos and coloring foams to neutralize yellowness (which is why they have a blue or purple tint, contrasting with yellow and orange).

If, some time after dyeing, your hair has lost its shine, after each wash, rinse it with cool water with the addition of apple or grape vinegar (approximately 1-2 tablespoons per liter of water). And if you add it to vinegar first, your hair will also smell nice.

We think about preserving color even before dyeing

When planning a coloring procedure, most women only think about choosing the color and the salon in which they will do it. The question of how to maintain the resulting hair color comes to mind much later, after. And this is the most important and most common mistake. This problem needs to be addressed already at the initial stage. What can be done?

1. A week before coloring, be sure to undergo a course of restorative procedures. These can be special masks that affect the deeper layers of the hair. Keratin restoration will work even more effectively. The hair will be treated with a special composition with protein components that carefully envelop the hair, smooth out its scales and make them less porous. This will help preserve the color in the future.

2. Do not carry out any aggressive procedures two weeks before coloring: no perms, hair dryers, curlers and curlers.

3. Strengthen your care: masks, balms, oils - everything should be used to the maximum two weeks before coloring.

4. Choose the right paint: ammonia dye is used for painting thin and gray hair, and ammonia-free - for previously painted, dull, damaged and dry ones.

This way, even before dyeing, you can do everything in your power to ensure that the color you choose stays on your hair for a long time. Very important stage in this matter - the coloring itself, on the correct implementation of which the future life of your hair will also depend.

Let's paint correctly

If you are doing coloring in a salon, a real professional will tell you how to maintain the color of your dyed hair for as long as possible and what needs to be done for this at this stage. Little tricks say that during coloring you need to take care of some basic, but very important things that can extend the life of your hair in color.

1. Trust the professionals: it will be much easier to prolong the effect of coloring pigments if the coloring takes place in a salon.

2. Even application of paint is necessary.

3. Be sure to take care of a color fixer that will preserve the rich shade for as long as possible.

How to maintain color after the procedure

Don't wash your hair

Do not wash your hair after coloring for two days. During these 48 hours, the coloring pigments are fixed inside the hair, and you simply wash them off without allowing the process to begin.

Choose the right cosmetics

For hair care after the procedure, choose those products that were developed exclusively for colored hair. Regular shampoos contain sulfates, the purpose of which is to penetrate the hair structure and clean it. In this way, coloring pigments are also washed out. Balms, shampoos, and masks for colored hair will help you preserve your color: they act in the opposite direction. These products cover the hair scales, preventing color particles from leaving their cozy place. In addition, they are enriched with polymers, proteins and sun filters, which will actively protect your curls from ultraviolet radiation, rain and sea water.

Eliminate aggressive agents

Do not use cosmetics to restore and nourish your hair in the first weeks (at least two) after coloring, no matter how much you would like to help your hair survive the stress. Such preparations contain very aggressive substances that destroy coloring pigments, making hair dull and lifeless.

No saunas

For approximately 2 weeks after coloring, do not visit the sauna or swimming pool. High temperatures and bleach will not allow the color to set.

Moisturize

Coloring is a drying procedure, so you can and should actively use masks and conditioners with a moisturizing effect. This will help you maintain the color of your dyed hair for a longer period.

Maintain color

Depending on the chosen hair shade, purchase and tinted shampoos in accordance with it: preparations developed specifically for brown-haired women, blondes and brunettes will be able to keep your new color in good shape and not lose it prematurely. Such products will protect blondes from yellowing, brown-haired women from fading, and brunettes will be given additional natural shine.

Additional protection

When going outside or going to a resort, be sure to use heat-protective sprays, creams, and oils. By forming a protective film, they prevent harmful external influences from aggressively affecting your new color.

Choose the right comb

Use only combs that do not break hair, do not damage its structure and add shine. These are rubber combs or brushes with natural bristles.

Salon procedures for maintaining color

Be sure to ask your hairdresser how to preserve the color of dyed hair using salon procedures. You may be offered:

LIFTING: Using ultrasonic waves, molecules of water, proteins and keratin penetrate deep into the hair shaft, and infrared radiation treats damaged areas.

LAMINATION: proteins, wax, keratins, and plant components are applied to the hair, which envelop the hair with a protective film, allowing the colored strands to retain their color.

SHINE OF COLOR: color is restored with the help of oil serums and masks that regenerate the hair, fix the color pigment in it, and restore the disturbed pH of the scalp.

When planning the coloring procedure, be sure to think about color preservation in advance. Only a set of targeted measures at each stage of this procedure will help you in this matter. Knowing how to maintain hair color for a long time, you can enjoy a consistently bright and rich color day after day.

According to statistics, there are much more brunettes than blondes. It is believed that dark hair has greater strength and density, which is why they create the appearance of lush and luxurious hair. Thanks to a pigment such as eumelanin, hair has a dark color. To constantly highlight the beauty and radiance of your dark hair, and also to give them a vibrant shine, you need to be able to properly care for them.

Nowadays there are many ways to care for your hair; in specialized stores and salons you can see inexpensive masks designed for dark hair, but you can save a lot by preparing the mask yourself at home. Some products available in the home kitchen, thanks to their components, can support the work of eumelanin, the lack of which causes hair color to fade.

In nature, there are a sufficient number of substances that have coloring properties and differ from synthetics and “chemicals” that are filled in store-bought tubes. A homemade mask for dark hair can consist of different components, but the most effective are the following: coffee, cocoa, oak bark, nettle, sage, black tea, mustard oil, soy sauce and others. These components are always available under the other, so all that remains is to prepare the mask correctly.

Several recipes for making a homemade mask for dark hair

  1. An effective mask made from ground coffee. Pour 200 ml of boiled water into a container and add two tbsp. spoons of coffee. After which you need to leave the mixture to cool. Next, the grounds need to be evenly distributed over the strands and left for half an hour. For better results, wrap your head in a plastic bag and towel.
  2. Mask made of coffee, yolk, milk and butter. Pour 100 ml of boiled water into a container, add 2 tbsp. spoons of ground coffee. After which you need to leave the grounds for 20-30 minutes, then add the yolk, add 100 ml of warm milk and 50 ml of unrefined vegetable oil. Apply the finished mask to your hair, spreading it over the entire length. Keep the mixture for at least 20 minutes.
  3. Mask with the addition of cognac. Mix 200 ml of boiled water with 2 tbsp. spoons of ground coffee. The resulting thicket must be left for about 30 minutes, then add 2 yolks, 50 ml of cognac and vegetable oil, preferably unrefined. Due to the alcohol content in the prepared mixture, it must be washed off after 15 minutes of exposure.
  4. Coffee mask with henna. Pour 200 ml of boiled water into a container, add 2 tbsp. spoons of ground coffee. Leave the mixture for a while, then add egg yolk, kefir at room temperature 100 ml and one tablespoon of henna. This mask should be kept for about 1 hour.
  5. Honey mask. You need to mix 3 tbsp. spoons of cocoa powder with 1 tbsp. spoon of honey castor oil, 5 tbsp. spoons of kefir. Keep the mixture for at least an hour.

If you carry out such procedures periodically, at least once a week, then after 3-5 months you will see positive result. WITH similar masks any brunette will look even brighter, more noticeable and more beautiful.
