Therefore, you will probably find the master class useful, how to knit double mittens (with lining), prepared by Vera Ponomarenko. In addition, Vera’s turned out to be very beautiful and elegant, you can see them in the photo. The description of the work is designed for the age of a child: 3-4 years, but using this principle you can also knit mittens of large sizes.

Double mittens (knitting)

Do you want to knit mittens for your child, but don’t know how? The master class on knitting children's double mittens will help you find the answer to your question. Use your imagination and it’s no longer just everyday life Everyday life in frosty weather, but also an excellent gift for your favorite holidays. After all, we have been taught since childhood: “The best is made with your own hands!”

  • Yarn: Moscow LAMA “Russian motif” (100 g / 300 m, yarn composition: 40% wool, 60% acrylic)
  • Marker: piece of contrasting thread – 12 cm
  • Knitting needles: two sets stocking needles 2.5 mm and 3 mm.

Description

To keep the mittens on the wrists and not slide down, which is especially important for children, knitting must begin with an elastic band. In this example, one of the popular options is used - k2, p2. And so that the product does not lose its presentation during subsequent wear, the elastic should be knitted with knitting needles of a smaller size than the main part is supposed to be knitted.

On stocking needles with a diameter of 2.5 mm, cast on 40 sts. Evenly distribute 10 sts on each of the four knitting needles and knit 2x2 rib for the next 50 rows. As the product begins to add row after row, it may seem that at the 20th row it is time to stop and move on to knitting the palm and thumb. But since the presented sample of mittens is double (with lining), this number of centimeters of elastic will fold in half.

So, after 50 rows, it was the turn of the stockinette stitch. At the same time, it is necessary to replace the knitting needles with a 3 mm diameter. Continue knitting another 8 rows. Will start at 9 thumb.

The methods for knitting the thumb of a mitten are varied. This master class describes the simplest of them. To do this, knit 4 knit stitches on the first knitting needle, insert a thread of a different color (marker) and knit the remaining 6 knit stitches on the knitting needle.

Return to the main color yarn, finish the current row with knit stitches, plus another 28 circular rows (total - 37 rubles from the rib).

In the next row, i.e. 38th, starting from the first needle, start decreasing along the edges. At the same time, on the 1st and 3rd knitting needles, slip the penultimate loop onto the right knitting needle. Knit the last loop and pull it through the removed one (i.e. 2 stitches along with a tilt to the right). But on the 2nd and 4th knitting needles the inclination should be to the left, i.e. Knit the first loop and pull through the second. Thus, decrease until there are two loops left on the knitting needles (total: 8 stitches). Cut the thread at a distance of 5 cm and tighten the remaining loops. The remaining piece of yarn will be needed later to fasten the outer and inner mittens together.

Return to marker. Using a knitting needle, pull the thread out of the fabric. Cast on the dropped stitches on the knitting needles. Total: 6 sts at the bottom and 7 sts at the top. On the bottom row, pick up one more side loop on each side. They must be knit crossed in the first row to avoid the appearance of holes in the fabric. In total, knitting the thumb is carried out on 15 loops for the next 17 rows.

The outer one is ready. It's time for the "lining". To do this, cast on 40 stitches along the bottom edge of the elastic so that the outer loops remain behind the work.

Work the next 8 rows in stockinette stitch. In the 9th row, knit 6 loops with a thread of a different color parallel to the thumb on the outer mitten. Return to main yarn. Continue work facial loops next 26 rows. In total, the elastic band should make 35 rows. Make reductions. Pull the last 8 loops together with thread, leaving a 5-centimeter tip.

Knitting the thumb of an inner mitten is no different from the method described earlier. The only difference will be the number of rows, which are half a centimeter less (15 rows in total).
In the end it turned out double mitten.

Using the previously left ends of the yarn, fasten both parts from the inside and turn the fabric inside out. This must be done so that the child does not suffer in the future when putting on and taking off gloves, because the lining will remain in place under any circumstance.
Perform the right mitten following the example of the left one.

The only exception would be the choice of knitting needles for thumb knitting. Yes, on outside fabric, insert a marker at the beginning of the IV needle. The inner thumb, accordingly, will be located parallel to the outer one. The choice of knitting needle in this case will depend on the beginning of the set of loops along the edge of the elastic band.

Make a twisted lace. To do this, you need to cut the thread to the required length. Fold the piece in half. Secure one end with a heavy object, and start twisting the thread with your fingers on the other side. The longer you twist the piece, the tighter the lace will be. Next, fold it in half again, straightening it along its length. Tie one end into a knot to prevent deformation. Using a hook, pull the lace behind the knit stitches at a height of 10 rows from the knit stitch.

Decorate the ends with pom-poms.

The final step will be applique on the outer mitten. It could be a flower or a butterfly if the children's mittens are intended for girls.

A boy's pair of mittens will be decorated with a snowman or a bear. It all depends on the author’s imagination.

Knitting is one of the most fascinating types of needlework. In addition, hand knitting is also very fashionable. Knitted products The widespread interest in things made in the hand-made style brought the peak of popularity. Therefore, many girls again took up knitting needles to create fashionable masterpieces with their own hands. detailed instructions How to knit mittens will help you master the skills of knitting this accessory and reveal the secrets of craftsmanship.

Selecting materials and tools

To make mittens you will need:

  • threads
  • set of 5 double needles
  • pin

To knit mittens, it is recommended to use thin or medium-thick yarn, natural wool or wool blend. Products made from these types of yarn are beautiful, warm, and comfortable to wear. Yarn consumption depends on the size of the hand, the volume of the chosen pattern, the length of the cuff, and the meter of the yarn itself. On average, a pair of mittens takes from 50 to 150 g. The choice of knitting needles depends on the thickness of the yarn: for knitting with thin threads it is recommended to use knitting needles No. 2, for knitting with threads of medium thickness - knitting needles No. 3.

Various patterns and knitting techniques can be used to knit mittens, but the most impressive look are:

  • braids and plaits
  • lumps
  • shadow patterns
  • relief patterns
  • jacquard patterns
  • motives
  • stripes

The selected pattern is placed on the back of each mitten or, if the pattern is flat, it can be knitted on both sides of the product. Mittens knitted with regular stockinette stitch can be additionally decorated with embroidery, applique, fringe, pompoms, buttons, knitted flowers, beads or rhinestones.

Features of knitting mittens with stocking needles

Beginning needlewomen, in order to understand the intricacies of knitting, are recommended to try knitting the simplest version of mittens for the first time. In the presented instructions we will knit mittens using knitting needles using the traditional knitting method - in the round. When performing it, all the loops of the future product are evenly distributed on 4 working knitting needles and closed in a circle. The junction of the circle should be marked by attaching a contrasting thread or pin. The fifth knitting needle is an auxiliary knitting needle, used for knitting loops and in the process of work replaces all the others in a circle. Knitting is done clockwise.

Knitting in a circular manner is carried out exclusively on the front side of the product and, accordingly, in the circle, which automatically eliminates the presence of edge loops. This type of knitting allows you to get a seamless product. A mark left in the form of a thread or a pin at the junction of the cast-on loops into a ring indicates both the end of the previous and the beginning of a new row.
Using stocking needles, you can knit mittens both from top to bottom and from bottom to top. The last method is the most common and much easier to implement. Having mastered it, you can quickly learn how to knit mittens and other, more complex methods.

The entire knitting process is divided into several stages:

  • loop calculation
  • performance cuff
  • knitting the bottom of the mitten
  • knitting the top of the mitten
  • toe design
  • thumb knitting

In order for the mittens to fit well on your hand, without squeezing it or dangling, you should accurately determine the size of the product.

How to calculate loops

To calculate the number of loops required for work, you should knit a sample using the pattern you like. To knit a pattern, cast on up to 30 stitches and knit the same number of rows. Lightly stretch the resulting sample with your fingers, measure the knitting density horizontally and vertically, and calculate its coefficient by dividing the calculated result by 10.
Then take measurements, measuring the circumference and length of the palm, the height of the thumb. The circumference of the palm is measured at its widest part using a tightly stretched measuring tape. Palm length is measured at several points from the wrist:

  • to the top of the thumb
  • to the top of the little finger
  • to the base of the thumb

The height of the thumb is measured from its base to the middle of the nail plate.

Attention! Knowing the knitting density coefficient and the measurements of the palm, it is easy to calculate how many loops you will need to cast on for the future product.

Loops are calculated using the formula: multiply the circumference of the palm by the horizontal knitting density coefficient.

In an example it looks like this: 20 x 1.9 = 38 loops, where

  • 20 – measurement of palm circumference in cm
  • 1.9 – density coefficient

The result obtained should be a multiple of 4. This will allow you to evenly distribute the cast-on stitches onto 4 working needles. If the result obtained is not divisible by four, it should be rounded up to the nearest multiple of four.
In an example, it looks like this: when calculating the loops, the result was 38. This number is not divisible by four, so it should be increased to the nearest multiple of four, in this case it is 40. This number of loops should be cast on the knitting needles.
Special tables that indicate all the necessary data, depending on the girth of the palm, will also help you determine the number of loops required for knitting a product.

Using the measurements taken, you can additionally construct a drawing of the mitten and focus on it during the knitting process.

Attention! Using a drawing is especially appropriate if the mittens are knitted for another person and there is no opportunity to try them on during the knitting process.

Knitting cuff

Considering the traditional way of knitting mittens - from the bottom up, you should start knitting the first mitten (in this case it will be the right one) from the cuff. To knit a cuff, cast on 40 stitches and distribute them evenly, 10 pieces at a time, onto 4 knitting needles.

Attention! Since the mitten being knitted is intended for the right hand, there will be loops on the 1st and 2nd knitting needles intended for knitting the inside of the hand. On the 3rd and 4th knitting needles there are loops intended for knitting the back of the hand. The loops cast on and distributed over 4 knitting needles should be closed into a ring by knitting the first four loops of the 1st knitting needle together with the end of the cast-on row in the second row. This technique will make the joint tighter. You should then mark the seam by pinning it or tying a contrasting thread to make it easier to identify the start and end of each row.

To ensure that the mitten fits well around the wrist and does not stretch during wear, its lower edge - the cuff - should be covered with an elastic band.

Attention! The most common cuff design options are 1×1 or 2×2 elastic. But other design options can also be used: 3×3 or 4×4 rib, strands or braids, cross rib, scalloped edge or stockinette stitch with the edge turned inside out.

The simplest option for decorating the cuff of a mitten is to knit a 2×2 elastic band. This pattern is a sequential alternation of 2 front and 2 purl loops. It can be used when knitting mittens for the first time.

After the required number of loops has been cast on and distributed on the knitting needles, and then closed into a ring, you should begin knitting a 2x2 elastic band. Having knitted the cuffs to a height of 6-10 cm (if desired, the cuffs can be knitted longer or shorter), you should proceed to the next stage of knitting - the lower part of the mitten. We use the main pattern for this.

Knitting the lower part of the main part of the mitten

For those who are just mastering the art of knitting mittens, it is recommended to choose a pattern as simple as possible for knitting the main part, for example, stockinette stitch. When making this pattern, all loops should be knitted exclusively from the top segment, that is, the thread is always in use.

The lower part of the mitten starts from the top edge of the cuff and reaches the base of the thumb. In order for the palm to fit comfortably inside the mitten, at the stage of transition of the cuff into the main part of the mitten, increments should be made - one knit stitch at the beginning of the 1st and 3rd knitting needles, as well as one knit stitch at the end of the 2nd and 4th knitting needles knitting needles The added loops should be pulled out from the twisted broaches. Next, knit the mitten with the main pattern in the round. A hole for the thumb should be made 5-7 cm from the top edge of the cuff. This knitting method is called “without wedge”. This means that the thumb part is made according to a simplified pattern.

Attention! During the knitting process, you should try on the mitten from time to time or attach it to the drawing for comparison.

Knitting the upper part of the main part of the mitten

Having reached the base of the thumb, you should leave a corresponding hole for it. You can do this using one of the following methods.

Continue knitting the main piece in the round, making the pattern in stockinette stitch. After 8-9 cm, when the upper edge of the main part reaches the tip of the little finger, you should proceed to knitting the toe, which ensures a beautiful fit of the mitten on the hand.

Knitting a toe

The toe of the mitten can be knitted using any of the following methods:

  • pointed
  • rounded
  • spiral

To obtain a pointed toe on a mitten, decrease stitches should be done as follows. Knit the first two loops located on the 1st needle together with a knit stitch, making a left bend. Knit the remaining nine stitches of the 1st needle in stockinette stitch. On the 2nd knitting needle, do the same thing, but in a mirror image: knit nine stitches in stockinette stitch, knit the last two together, making a knit stitch behind the front walls, thereby forming a slant to the right.

The loops located on the 3rd knitting needle should be knitted like the loops of the 1st knitting needle, namely: knit two loops together with stockinette stitch, forming a slant to the left, knit the remaining nine loops according to the pattern. The loops located on the 4th knitting needle should be knitted like the loops from the 2nd knitting needle: first, nine loops in stockinette stitch, leaving only the last 2, which should be knitted together in stockinette stitch behind the front walls, forming a slant to the right.

Attention! The decreases should be repeated every other row until there are six loops left on each of the knitting needles. In those rows where decreases and tilts were not performed, the outer loops on the knitting needles should be knitted according to the pattern. The remaining six loops on each knitting needle should continue to decrease, doing this in each row. Decrements should be made 4 rows in a row. As a result, only two loops will remain on each knitting needle. Tear off the working thread from the skein you are using, use a needle to pick up all the loose loops, pull them together, and then fasten them on the wrong side of the mittens.

To obtain a spiral rounding on the toe, you need to knit the first two loops on each needle together using stockinette stitch at the lower lobes. Repeat decreases in this manner on each row until only two stitches remain on all needles. Having torn the thread from the skein in use, pick up the loops using a needle, pull them together, and hide the excess ends on the wrong side.

Attention! Spiral and rounded methods of making toes on mittens will look good if the mittens are knitted exclusively with stockinette stitch, without using other patterns. If the mittens are knitted using openwork or a braid pattern, then before you start decreasing for the toe, you should switch to knitting in stockinette stitch, first knitting 1-2 rows, and then only starting to decrease the loops for the toe.

Knitting Thumb Details

To complete the thumb detail, you can use any of the presented options.

The right mitten is ready. The second, left mitten, is knitted in a mirror image.

Having mastered the technique of knitting mittens using these instructions, beginning needlewomen can also try their hand at knitting mittens with more complex patterns. By improving the skill of knitting mittens and enjoying the process, you can master other techniques: knitting mittens with a lining, with a regular wedge, with an Indian wedge, with a separate index finger, using shortened rows, top to bottom, cross knitting. Seamless mittens

A basic lesson on knitting mittens that even a beginner can handle. The peculiarity of this model is the absence of a characteristic seam. The product will require only 70 grams of wool, as well as five needles No. 3.

Before you begin the creative process, you need to determine the knitting density. The optimal indicator for this model is 1.7 loops in one centimeter.

Measure the girth of your hand, standard measurement for female hand- 20 centimeters. Work on 5 knitting needles, this is how the mittens will turn out seamless.

Step-by-step algorithm:

  • We cast on loops at the rate of 20 * 1.7 = 34 loops. All 34P are distributed over four knitting needles. For ease of calculations and multiplicity, dial 36 P, which are distributed in nine for each of the 4 knitting needles.
  • Conditionally number each knitting needle. Knit, closing the circle more tightly, 4p of the 1st knitting needle together with the end of the yarn that remained on the 4th knitting needle from the set of loops.
  • We start knitting with the right mitten. On the 1st and 2nd knitting needles we will count the loops of the lower part of the mitten, on the 3rd and 4th - on the right. Tie with an elastic pattern 1LP*1IP, the cuff height is approximately 7 cm.
  • Knit the warp, moving in a circle, row by row, to the base of the thumb. The distance is 5-7 cm depending on the size. The finger is knitted on the 1st needle for the right mitten, on the 2nd needle for the left.
  • Having reached the base, begin to decrease the loops at the toe of the mitten. On the 1st and 3rd knitting needles, the first 2P are knitted together with 1LP behind the rear walls with a 1P turn. On the 2nd and 4th needles we knit in a mirror manner, that is, behind the front walls. Decrease until half the number of stitches remains.
  • Tie the thumb hole. Insert two knitting needles so that the bottom one is 7P and the top 6P. Distribute them onto the knitting needles and knit in the round. Having reached the nail area, decrease the loops, as in the toe. When there are 1p left on the knitting needles, pull them together and fasten them from the wrong side.
  • When the right mitten is ready, we knit the left pair in the same way, but mirrored.

Long mittens with two knitting needles

A stylish model with an elongated cuff will not only warm you up, but will also become an original detail of the winter beauty’s image. These mittens are knitted on two knitting needles.

There are two ways: the first - two separate parts are knitted and then sewn together, the second - continuous knitting with one invisible seam.

We suggest knitting the mittens using the second method. The process is more labor-intensive, but the result will be visually more accurate. To work you will need a skein of yarn, knitting needles, a pin, a hook, a needle, and a tailor's yardstick. Instructions:

  • Start with the right piece. Take measurements and determine the knitting density in 1 centimeter. For standard size it turns out 40P-4P=36P, plus 2 edge loops.
  • Tie the cuff with an elastic band according to the 2LP*2IP principle. There are approximately ten rows for a length of 15 cm.
  • For the main one, take knitting needles of a smaller diameter. Add 4p evenly, knit to the base of the thumb.

Besides the original appearance, the advantage of such mittens is that they warm your hands perfectly

Many beginners mistakenly leave room for their thumb on the side. In fact, the pipe is knitted closer to the palm, so your hands will be warmer and more comfortable.

  • We knit 2 loops from the edge, and then remove them with a pin. For the finger, take 6P, knit them, remove them with a pin. 6P of the thumb will remain on the working knitting needle. Knit in height, multiply the length of the finger by 2, then enter the loops from the pin into the work.
  • Tie to the little toe, move to the toe. To do this, you need to divide all the loops into 2, remove one part with a pin. We begin to shorten and knit according to the principle “edge, 1 loop, then 2 loops together.” Reduce until there are 6-8 stitches left on the needle.
  • We close the remaining loops and work the other side in the same way. When the toe is finished, carefully sew up the hole at the base of the mitten.

Knit the left mitten similarly to the right one, in a mirror image. The master class will certainly appeal to beginners, because knitting or crocheting mittens is a fascinating creative process.

Mittens with a pattern for children and adults

Mittens with a pattern are the next level for beginner craftswomen. The ornament is an original detail that turns an ordinary winter accessory into a designer item.

To make it easier for needlewomen to implement a creative idea, there are many diagrams with detailed descriptions. We offer an interesting tutorial on how to create stylish mittens with a classic pigtail pattern.

To work you will need 70 g of soft yarn, you can take angora or acrylic, as well as stocking needles. Don't forget to take the necessary hand measurements!

Original knitted mittens

Work algorithm:

  • We start, as usual, with the right mitten. Knit a standard rib knit 2*p 2. Cast on 48 stitches, distribute equally onto each of the 4 needles and knit.
  • Let's move on to the braid pattern.

The basic principle of creating a three-dimensional braid ornament: 8 loops cross to the left. To do this, 4 loops remain on the auxiliary needle, and the other 4 loops. knitted with an auxiliary knitting needle.

  • From rows 1 to 6, knit according to the formula 1LP, 2IP, 8LP, 2IP, 8LP, 2IP, 1LP. Knit the loops on two knitting needles from the palm side.
  • We knit the seventh row like this: 1LP, 2IP, 8P cross to the left, then 2IP, 8P cross to the right, 2 IP, 1LP. Knit the stitches on two needles from the palm side, repeat rows 1 to 7.
  • Leave a hole for the thumb. To tie it, 2 persons. Slip 6 loops onto a pin, cast on 6 stitches, knit 4 stitches.
  • We form the toe. To do this, we decrease the loops by knitting two loops together on each knitting needle, rounding the mitten towards the base. Carefully sew up the small hole in the thumb and toe with the same yarn.

Another option for knitting mittens with owls

Mittens are one of the most necessary items in a children's winter wardrobe. They protect your baby's hands from the frosty cold. That is why when choosing children's mittens, you first need to pay attention to how well they warm. But it is also important for children that the things they use are beautiful, bright and interesting. For example, any child will appreciate knitted mittens in the shape of some animals, toys or favorite cartoon characters.

Thus, mothers are faced with a difficult task - to find warm mittens that her baby should also like. But if you are a handicraft mother, everything is solved very simply; you can knit the mittens yourself with knitting needles. Nowadays, the choice of yarn in stores is so large that you can easily select threads of suitable quality, and your child will tell you what kind of mittens he wants.

Many modern children will love the mittens that we suggest you knit using our knitting needles according to our master class. These are mittens in the shape of minions – the heroes of the famous cartoon “Despicable Me”. In addition, in this tutorial we will teach you how to make these mittens double.

The list of everything needed for knitting minion mittens is small.

What you need to knit baby mittens

1. Yarn. Which thread to choose is up to you, but we can recommend paying attention to some properties of yarn that are important for children's mittens.

Firstly, based on the composition of the thread, it is better to choose a wool mixture, which combines the advantages of both components: wool - warms, acrylic - prevents shrinkage of the product. Secondly, an important point is the quality of fiber coloring, because minion mittens are knitted from yarn different colors, which should not stain each other during further use (and in particular, washing). And in order to protect yourself from possible disappointments, do not forget to always knit a sample from the yarn you have chosen before working with a product, and be sure to subject it to wet heat treatment to check its properties.

We will use yarn Russian production Pekhorka "Children's Caprice". Its footage is 225m in 50g. The yarn is quite thin, so we will knit in two threads. For double mittens per child aged 2-3 years, one skein of each color will be enough. By the way, the color scheme of the yarn is determined by the image of the minion itself, that is, blue and yellow colors will be needed. In addition, you will need very little yarn, black, white and gray colors, and any unnecessary leftover yarn is suitable for use as waste thread.

2. Set of double needles. The size must match the chosen yarn. We'll take No. 3.5.

3. Knitting needle or crochet hook, depending on what is more convenient for you to use when closing loops.

When the choice is made and everything is ready, you can start working.

How to knit children's mittens: master class

The technology of knitting double mittens involves casting on the first row of loops with waste thread. Any thread is suitable for this purpose; its color and quality do not matter, since it will be removed later. So, let's take 2 knitting needles and cast on 36 loops (all calculations in this master class are given for a child aged 2-3 years)

Take out one of the knitting needles and distribute all the loops equally on 4 knitting needles, that is, 9 loops on each. To do this, you just need to move the loops; you don’t need to knit them. First, let's slip 9 loops onto the first knitting needle.

Then to the second.

And then on the third needle, and on the fourth these 9 loops will simply remain.

In order to close the knitting in a circle, we connect the beginning and end of the row by simply knitting the first loop.

For greater stability, we will also knit the first row after the cast-on with waste thread. In the next row we will switch to knitting with the main thread, adding a blue thread. Let's start knitting the mitten cuff. We advise you to choose some type of knitted elastic band for this, because such knitting holds the mitten on your hand better. We will use a 2*2 elastic band, that is, this is an alternation of two knit stitches and two purl stitches.

The height of the cuff is 20 rows - or 5 cm.

Next we move on to the main part of the mitten. We also knit it with blue thread, only in stockinette stitch (knit all the loops with knit stitches). We will knit to the base of the thumb. In our example, this distance is 4 cm, or 15 rows.

We'll change it later Blue colour to yellow. To do this, simply break the thread.

Attach a yellow thread and continue knitting with facial loops.

Let's just knit the loops of two knitting needles yellow.

On the third knitting needle we will mark a place for knitting the thumb. It's on the mitten for the right hand. When we knit the second mitten - for the left hand, the thumb will be knitted on the fourth knitting needle. The width of the thumb for children's mittens is usually calculated to be 2 loops less than the number of loops on one knitting needle. A simple arithmetic calculation - and we’ll find out how many loops to leave for the finger of our mittens: 9-2 = 7 loops.

We will simply knit the first loop with yellow thread.

To mark the place for the thumb, take another piece of waste thread.

Let's attach it to our knitting and knit with this thread the number of loops that we calculated, that is, 7 loops.

These loops should be returned to the left needle again by sequential transfer.

There is again one loop left on the working knitting needle, knitted with a yellow main thread.

We put the main thread back into the work and continue knitting in stockinette stitch on the loops that were re-stitched.

We knit the last (ninth) loop from the third needle.

We continue knitting in circles.

This is what the place for the thumb looks like, the loops seem to be temporarily held together with waste thread.

You need to knit 12 rows with yellow thread.

Let's go back to the yellow color again and knit another 8 rows with it.

If possible, try the mitten on your child or check the measurements. Having tied the main part of the mitten to the tip of the little finger, you can begin to make decreases. Exist different ways performing decreases in mittens. To give our mitten the rounded shape of a minion's head, we will use the method of evenly decreasing the loops.

To do this, knit the entire row of 2 loops together. After this we knit the next 3 rows again without decreases, just in stockinette stitch. The next row after them is again with decreases (knit all loops two together). And we finish with another row of knit stitches.

Break the thread and use a knitting needle (or crochet hook) to pull the end of this thread through all the loops.

Let's pull the thread and thereby close the loops. All that remains is to secure and remove the tail.

Now you can start knitting the thumb. To do this, pull out the additional thread, and so that the loops do not unravel, immediately hang them on the knitting needles.

When all the loops are free from the thread, distribute them on four knitting needles, adding more new ones from the broaches to prevent the appearance of holes at the junction of the top and bottom rows.

The mitten's finger is like a minion's hand. Therefore, first we will knit 10 rows in yellow. Then we’ll switch to black (like the minions’ gloves) and knit them from rows 11 to 15. The length of the tied finger has reached the middle of the nail; you can make decreases. To do this, in the 16th row from the beginning of the finger, we knit all the loops 2 together. Next row - knit all stitches. Row 18 again with decreases. Gather the remaining loops with a needle and tighten.

In fact, we have one full mitten ready. But to make it double, let's go back to the set row again.

We weave or carefully cut off the waste thread, while the open loops must immediately be put on the knitting needle.

We will also distribute them into 9 loops on four knitting needles.

Now we will knit the mitten in the opposite direction. In the first row we purl all the stitches to form the fold of the cuff. Next, we knit 20 rows of 2*2 elastic in exactly the same way.

We will knit the main part of the mitten according to the same calculations, only completely yellow. Please note that the finger must be knitted opposite the already knitted finger.

This is what the double mitten looks like when unfolded.

Finally, you can give the minion a face. We embroidered the eyes stalk seam. If you know how to crochet, you can first knit them separately and then sew them to the mitten. We will also embroider a mouth.

Using large stitches we will create the minion's hairstyle.

The baby mitten for the boy is ready.

All that remains is to “invest” one into the other.

And knit the second one. Don't forget to pay attention to correct location thumb

The mittens turned out warm and cute. Your baby will definitely like these.

Marina Vyachileva specifically for the site

It is believed that all women know how to knit and, if not with a large item, then with a small one, they should be able to handle it. For example, with a scarf or mittens. It is with this item of clothing that beginners in knitting are often advised to start learning how to knit. But for beginning knitters, knitting in the round often becomes a problem. We suggest that you first try to knit mittens for children using a simple flat layout on two knitting needles.

Our master class with a detailed description will help you make the first pair and understand the principle, and in the future you can easily knit on 4-5 knitting needles in the round, without additional stitching of the product.

We knit warm mittens on 2 knitting needles for children of any age

Mittens are always knitted starting from the wrist, and it is very important to initially cast on the correct number of stitches, so as not to unravel the product later and not to redo the work. We present you a table for calculating loops. All you need to do is measure the circumference of your child’s wrist with a centimeter.

This table is suitable for any method of knitting mittens.

You will knit according to this layout, checking the description of the work.

1). First, knit 10 rows of elastic according to pattern 1 purl loop, 2 knits, etc.

2). Then there are 7 rows of facial loops.

3). In the middle of the next row, add 1 loop to widen the thumb and repeat the same in the next three rows.

4). Separate the thumb loops from the palm loops. If you check the diagram, there should be 13 of them, but make an even number - 14. These loops remain on the knitting needles, and the rest are removed with thread.

5). Knit the entire length of the thumb with facial loops, knit all the last 2 rows of loops 2 together and pull the remaining ones at the end into one. Using this thread of yarn, sew the finger on the side.

6). Now, having returned all the loops from the thread to the knitting needles, knit with facial loops in a straight line. And, before closing your palm, narrow it according to the diagram.

7). Cover the last row in the usual way. But first, all the remaining loops are put on one knitting needle, alternating 1 loop on the front and back sides of the mitten. Then knit 2 loops together, return the resulting loop to the knitting needle, then 3 together, received back and so on until the end of the row.

8). You can decorate the mitten with embroidery, felt appliqué, or, as here, a crocheted snowflake.

9). Sew the side seam. If desired, you can also add a fleece lining.

Let's try to make beautiful mittens using 4 knitting needles (or 2 circular knitting needles)

This example, a little more complicated, shows how to knit mittens for children on circular or sock knitting needles No. 2.5. However, the scheme is also not complicated and is suitable for beginners.

1). For approximately a three-year-old child, you need to cast on 32 loops and knit 16 rows of elastic (1 knit, 1 purl).

2). The next rows are knit stitches. If you want to make a stripe on a product with yarn contrasting color, then knit 3 rows with this yarn (you don’t have to break the original thread, and then stretch it on the wrong side). Knit another 5 rows with base color yarn.

3). Begin to knit a hole for the thumb of your right hand. To do this, knit 2 stitches, slip the next 6 stitches onto a knitting needle, or more conveniently onto a large pin, and finish the row with knit stitches.

4). So knit 15 rows with the main color (break it off) and 4 with the additional color. Try on the mitten; it should be long enough to reach the tip of your little finger; if not, knit a couple more rows.

5). Distribute the stitches on 2 knitting needles in half and knit on each, but in a decreasing circle: 2 stitches on each side of each row (through the circle). That is, in one row the number of loops is reduced by 4 pieces, in the next it remains unchanged. Alternate rows until you have 10 stitches on the needles. For the next few rows remove 2 stitches each front row. And as soon as there are 10 of them left, knit like this: 2 together, 1 knit, 2 together, 1 knit. Gather the last 6 loops by pulling the thread through them and tighten.

6). Tie out your thumb. Transfer the loops from the pin to the knitting needles and with yarn of an additional color, knit 13 rows in a circle, then 2 rows together and tighten the end of the thread. Bring all the ends of the threads to the wrong side.

The left mitten is knitted symmetrically. You can embroider a design with yarn.

The photo shows a pattern of a butterfly for embroidery using a “loop” stitch.

Master class on knitting bright mittens on 2 circular knitting needles

This method is unusual. It was invented either by very impatient people who want to knit both mittens at once without wasting time, or by very pedantic and neat people who are afraid that the second mitten will not turn out to be an exact copy of the first. Be that as it may, such a method exists. You need to get ready and wind the yarn into two balls. It’s not very convenient to look at the details of this method in a photo, so we included a master class with a detailed description in the video selection.
